Will Boldin Miss Matchup With Giants?

The Cardinals likely won't know until later in the week if receiver Anquan Boldin will be able to play Sunday against the Giants. Boldin suffered a sprained right ankle in the first half against the Seahawks last week. He played in the second half, but the Cardinals limited his time because they were well ahead.

Anquan Boldin was scheduled to undergo tests Monday, but it wouldn't be surprising to see him missing practice time this week.

Having Boldin would greatly increase the chances of the Cardinals beating the Giants. New York had trouble defending the Saints' diverse passing attack last week, and the Cardinals have a similar number of weapons when everyone is healthy.

Boldin's replacement, Steve Breaston, is a good player who had more than 1,000 receiving yards last year. And the No. 4 receiver, Jerheme Urban, is also a threat.

But the Cardinals don't have the receiving threats at tight end that the Saints do.

The Giants secondary is hobbled by injury, so having a full complement of receivers and a healthy Kurt Warner could mean an upset for the Cardinals.

PLAYER/PERSONNEL NOTES

--QB Kurt Warner remains one of the game's most accurate passers, provided he's given time to throw. He also excels against the blitz because no one reads defenses better.

--RB Tim Hightower isn't going to have great rushing statistics this year, but he's an effective ball carrier near the end zone. He had 10 touchdowns as a rookie last year and has rushed for three in five games this year.

--RB Beanie Wells bobbled two handoffs last week, and coaches are trying to get him to be more patient. Wells gets in too big of a hurry in the run game, and he tends to get to the handoff spot too soon, before his linemen have time to pull.

--WR Larry Fitzgerald's longest catch this season went for 26 yards, but he has scored five touchdowns in five games. Fitzgerald hasn't been able to get deep because of double coverage.

--WR Anquan Boldin is coming off two productive games but has a sprained right ankle. He suffered the injury last week but played afterward for a short time. He'll be evaluated as the week progresses.

--WR Steve Breaston has recovered from a knee injury and is producing as both a punt returner and receiver. Breaston is underrated as a receiver and is excellent at gaining yards after the catch.

--TE Stephen Spach missed last week's game because of a sprained ankle, and he'll likely be questionable for the Giants game.

--TE Ben Patrick returned from a four-game suspension last week and proved to be very effective as a blocker. Patrick also caught a pass for 10 yards.

--K Neil Rackers has done a nice job, missing on just one field goal in five games. He is also excellent at onside and pooch kicks, and coach Ken Whisenhunt isn't afraid to use those weapons.

--DE Calais Campbell continues to make big plays in every game. He has two blocked field goals this year and had a sack last week. He also plays the run well.

--DE Darnell Dockett continues to play at a Pro Bowl level, even though he hasn't been credited with a sack since the first game. Dockett is a disruptive force with a quick first step.

--CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie is coming off his best two games of the season. He hasn't made the mental errors that hampered him earlier this year, and he seems to be able to play through a fractured finger that requires him to wear a small cast on his right hand.
